Denver Snoring Treatment
Snoring is no laughing matter. It robs you and your bed partner from the restful sleep that you need to stay healthy. Snoring should not be tolerated. It must be treated seriously.
The First Step In Snoring Treatment
The first step in treating your snoring is to identify the cause of your snoring and whether or not it might be a symptom of a more serious condition called obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Berry and his team will work with you and your insurance company to schedule you for a sleep study at an accredited Denver sleep center. This sleep study will tell us whether or not your snoring is connected to a problem with sleep apnea.

Snoring Treatment Options
There are all sorts of snoring treatments out there, and unfortunately most of them don’t work, at least effectively enough to be recommended by our Denver dentists. Here are some easy ways to try to reduce your snoring on your own:
Snoring Treatment #1 – Positional Therapy: Sleep On Your Side
When you sleep on your back, gravity exerts pressure on your airway by pulling the soft tissues of your throat backward, closing the airway. By sleeping on your side, the weight of these soft tissues is in turn pulled to the side instead of collapsing backward.
Snoring Treatment #2 – Clear Your Airway
Allergies and asthma can cause snoring by clogging up your airway. If you have allergies, take decongestants on a regular basis as recommended by your doctor. Similarly, if you have asthma, use a preventative inhaler prescribed by your doctor such as Advair or Flovent.
Snoring Treatment #3 – Avoid Sedatives and Alcohol at Night
Sedatives and alcohol relax you to the point that your body forgets to use muscles that are intended to keep your airway open while you sleep, which means that the soft tissues in your airway are more likely to vibrate, causing snoring.
Snoring Treatment #4 – Breathe Right® Snoring Strips
These really do work for some people. They are over-the-counter, available at the grocery store or pharmacy. Breathe Right® strips are a good thing to try if you have only mild, occasional snoring.
Snoring Treatment #5 – Professional Snoring Treatment
Dr. Kevin and Dr. Kary Berry offer professional snoring treatment using oral, anti-snoring appliances. These appliances are custom-made to fit in your mouth. They work by advancing the lower jaw, which pulls the tongue forward and opens the airway. There are several brands of oral appliances, many of which also treat sleep apnea.
