Headaches Denver
If you’re like most people, when you get a headache you use an over-the-counter pain reliever that seems to stop it in its tracks, or at least temporarily. Having a headache once in awhile isn’t rare, as all sorts of factors can cause them such as daily stress, a bad night’s sleep, and so on. However, if you have been experiencing chronic headaches that reoccur on a weekly or even daily basis without any relief, you may have an underlying condition that is causing you to experience discomfort. Many patients who come to our practice complaining of headaches and other symptoms such as jaw pain, neck pain, and/or tinnitus usually suffer from TMJ Disorder, also known as TMD.
What Is TMD?
We have various joints within our bodies that control all sorts of functions. The temporomandibular joint, better known as the jaw joint, is the bones that allow us to open and close our mouths. However, when this joint is misaligned or isn’t balanced correctly, the patient has what we call Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (or TMD for short). Dr. Berry can diagnose and treat TMJ disorder. While it may seem unlikely, a problem with your jaw can lead to an array of symptoms, including headaches.
TMD and Headaches – What’s the Connection?
While your headaches and a problem with your jaw joint may seem completely unrelated, it is a proven fact that TMD can cause headaches. How? The body naturally recognizes the misalignment or imbalance within the joint and will unconsciously try to bring your TMJ back into a more fitting location. However, while the treatment behind TMJ involves realigning your joint, the body’s attempt to relocate it causes all sorts of tension and strain. This can lead to problems and discomfort with any part of the body that is connected to the TMJ. The TMJ, the skull, and the neck are all interconnected, and the strain causes by the body’s attempt to naturally fix the problem can cause headaches.
How Can Dr. Berry Solve Your Headaches?
The first step to diagnosing and solving your headaches is to figure out what is causing them. Using some of the most advanced technology available to dentists today, Dr. Berry will be able to discover whether or not your headaches are actually TMJ headaches. If so, Dr. Berry can not only find the problem, but using state of the art TMJ treatment, can actually realign your jaw to a more ideal position which often results in a disappearance of your headaches!
